ARVADA, CO, February 20, 2025 – This month, the Greater Arvada Chamber of Commerce completed the distribution of $400,000 to 50 different employers through the Work-Based Learning Incentive Program. This state-funded program enabled businesses and non-profits across 19 industries (including hairstyling, financial advising, and manufacturing) to offer employees and interns the opportunity to gain industry-specific skills.
Several businesses successfully transitioned interns into full-time employees, highlighting the effectiveness of hands-on training in preparing individuals for the workforce. The programs helped participants build confidence in their roles, allowing them to be more prepared for long-term careers. Many businesses emphasized the need for continued funding to expand training opportunities and bring in additional participants. The structure and mentorship provided by these programs were instrumental in ensuring employees had the necessary skills to succeed in their fields.
“The Greater Arvada Chamber remains dedicated to shaping the future of our local workforce through innovative initiatives, like the Work-Based Learning Incentive Program,” said Kami Welch, President and CEO of the Greater Arvada Chamber. “As businesses across industries face ongoing talent shortages, the Chamber is committed to bridging the gap between partners and industry.”
Work-based learning is a vital tool for businesses seeking to cultivate skilled talent while also providing individuals with hands-on experience in high-demand industries. This approach not only strengthens the workforce pipeline but also enhances economic development in our region. By integrating learning opportunities into the workplace, employers can shape the skills of future employees, ensuring they are well-prepared for the demands of today’s job market.
“All of our work-based learning participants moved on to be and are currently full-time hairstylists! We are so proud of our team and our new hairstylists who were able to get the training they needed to perform in the role of hairstylist.”
