Arvada Chamber to Honor Badass Women of Arvada in March

February 23, 2022

For the second consecutive year, the Arvada Chamber of Commerce will lead a celebration of Arvada women leaders in March as part of Women’s History Month. The Chamber will celebrate Badass Women of Arvada in business, non-profits, and the community and offer resources and engagement opportunities. Community members can nominate women to highlight as the Chamber celebrates business owners, executives, rising stars, pioneers, norm-breakers, entrepreneurs, inventors, influencers, and other leaders in Arvada.

This year’s celebration includes weekly spotlights for entrepreneurs, frontline workers, and manufacturing professionals, as well as an exclusive networking event for those nominated. The Arvada community is encouraged to celebrate women by sharing photos, stories, resources, and more on social media with the tag #BadassWomenOfArvada.

An Essential Time to Support Women in Business

In January, Colorado retained its top position in terms of best states for women-led startups, according to a Merchant Maverick data report. The report attributes Colorado’s ranking to the continued growth of startup hubs in Boulder and Denver, but not necessarily the points between.

The Arvada Chamber understands there is more work to be done to ensure equitable women leadership across the state of Colorado, especially to counter the impacts of COVID-19. A new report by the National Institute of Standards and Technology revealed that businesses run by minorities, women and veterans were dealt a much worse hand by the pandemic than other businesses. Additionally, the majority of pandemic-related job losses have been experienced by women, according to a 2021 report from the National Women’s Law Center.

The Badass Women of Arvada campaign provides a platform to honor women leaders in Arvada in order to promote a sustainable, competitive growth of female business owners that is critical to our economy’s success.

“Arvada is home to many incredible women in business, non-profit, and government roles that serve the Arvada community,” says Kami Welch, president of the Arvada Chamber of Commerce. “In March, we’re thrilled to support and celebrate their accomplishments and help promote future leaders that will help make Arvada a great place to work, live and play.”

About the Campaign and Women’s History Month

Women’s History Month is celebrated annually in March to highlight women’s achievements and promote gender equality across the globe. The month corresponds with International Women’s Day on March 8, a day of education, empowerment, and action. This year’s IWD theme is #BreakTheBias.

Women’s History Month began as a local celebration in Santa Rosa, California. The Sonoma County (California) Commission on the Status of Women planned and executed a “Women’s History Week” celebration in 1978. The movement spread across the country as other communities initiated their own Women’s History Week celebrations the following year. In 1987, Congress designated March as “Women’s History Month” and since 1995, each president has issued an annual proclamation designating the month of March as “Women’s History Month.”

The 2021 Badass Women of Arvada campaign saw 125 nominations, of which the Chamber honored 31 with spotlights on Facebook.
