Inclusion Spotlight: Brian Collins, Excalibur Outreach

Brian Collins, Director of Excalibur Outreach

“We started Excalibur Outreach in 2020 to address the needs of the underserved in the Arvada community. I started by using my ‘Platform’ to collect toys for kids during the holidays, and the subsequent programs grew from there.”

What do you find rewarding about this career?

It is very much an inner passion for me, the reward is the heartwarming feeling I get from helping others.

What is something someone wouldn’t know about you by looking at you?

I have a 3 year old granddaughter!

What does “belonging” mean to you, and how can organizations create that for their people or the broader community?

Belonging to me means that everyone has a fair chance at the same opportunities, but only if the opportunities are presented to everyone. I feel that NPOs and for-profit entities share the same responsibility: to make certain that all community members are well informed on what is available to them.

Why do you think it is important to promote inclusion in the greater Arvada business community?

Because as you look at the Arvada business community as a whole, there is not much representation of minority businesses or people of color. I’m not saying they don’t exist, but because of the makeup of Arvada’s general population, the percentages are low.

Inclusion is a core value of the Greater Arvada Chamber, which strives to empower new perspectives, solutions, and opportunities for our local economy and to serve as a champion for advancing all businesses and employees in Arvada. Learn more at arvadachamber.org/inclusion.
