Nominations now Open to Recognize Badass Women of Arvada

January 25, 2023

For the third consecutive year, the Arvada Chamber of Commerce will lead a celebration of Arvada women leaders in March as part of Women’s History Month. The Chamber will celebrate Badass Women of Arvada in business, non-profits, and the community and offer resources and engagement opportunities. Community members can nominate women to highlight as the Chamber celebrates business owners, executives, rising stars, pioneers, norm-breakers, entrepreneurs, inventors, influencers, and other leaders in Arvada.

This year’s celebration includes weekly spotlights for construction, hospitality, and healthcare professionals, as well as an exclusive networking event for those recognized. The Arvada community is encouraged to celebrate women by sharing photos, stories, resources, and more on social media with the tag #BadassWomenOfArvada.

Nominations will be accepted through March 17, 2023 at 5:00 PM. A panel of past winners, Arvada Chamber staff, and Arvada Chamber board members will select nominees to be recognized. The Arvada Chamber will spotlight one woman each day in March on its Facebook page and a short profile will be added to arvadachamber.org/badass.

A Critical Call to Support Women in Business

In 2022, Colorado retained its top position in terms of best states for Women-Led Startups. Not only does the state have a 76.86% startup survival rate, it also has one of the highest percentages of new businesses nationally. Colorado also has the highest percentage of women-owned businesses in the entire country at 10.39%. The Badass Women of Arvada campaign provides a platform to honor women leaders in Arvada in order to promote a sustainable growth of female business owners and community leaders in the city.

“At the Arvada Chamber, we are fortunate to work with so many incredible women in business, non-profit, and government roles that contribute to advancing the Arvada community,” says Kami Welch, president of the Arvada Chamber of Commerce. “Once again, we’re thrilled to support and celebrate their accomplishments and help pave the way for future leaders that will help make Arvada a great place to work, live and play.”

About the Campaign and Women’s History Month

Women’s History Month is celebrated annually in March to highlight women’s achievements and promote gender equality across the globe. The month corresponds with International Women’s Day on March 8, a day of education, empowerment, and action. This year’s IWD theme is #EmbraceEquity.

Women’s History Month began as a local celebration in Santa Rosa, California. The Sonoma County (California) Commission on the Status of Women planned and executed a “Women’s History Week” celebration in 1978. The movement spread across the country as other communities initiated their own Women’s History Week celebrations the following year. In 1987, Congress designated March as “Women’s History Month” and since 1995, each president has issued an annual proclamation designating the month of March as “Women’s History Month.”

The 2022 Badass Women of Arvada campaign saw 107 nominations, of which the Chamber honored 31 with spotlights on Facebook.

The Arvada Chamber of Commerce is in the midst of a strategic initiative, B.O.L.D. 2026 (Big Opportunities For Leaders To Deliver), focused on improving persistent business challenges that include talent, housing, childcare, and the business environment. We are building a team of tenacious problem solvers who will work to ensure that our talent ecosystem is the strongest in the country by increasing collaboration, aligning performance measures, designing sustainable systems, and sharing best practices. A substantial part of the success of B.O.L.D. will be through Sector Partnerships. Sector Partnerships are partnerships of business leaders, from the same industry and in a shared labor market region, who work with education, workforce development, economic development, and community organizations to address the workforce and other competitiveness needs of their industry.
